Medical:
The Level 3 Award in Pre-Hospital Immediate Casualty Care qualification has been designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide safe and effective care prior to the arrival of a qualified clinician. It builds core competencies in scene safety, casualty assessment, basic life support, and the initial management of a wide range of traumatic and medical emergencies, in line with UK pre-hospital care guidance. The qualification is based on the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) competencies at Level D.
This qualification is suitable for individuals to work in the following environmets:

Entry Requirements:
There are no specific requirements to undertake the qualification however, it is strongly recommended that learners hold an emergency first aid at work qualification or equivalent and hold a level 2 or above in literacy and numeracy. Learners must be 18 years of age or older to commence the training.

First Aid:
This accredited qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (NI) 1982.
Course duration is 3 days and topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider; assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, chest injuries, spinal injuries, anaphylaxis and use of a defibrilator. The qualification is assessed via on-going oral/written questioning and practical demonstration.
All successful candidates will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate, which is valid for 3 years.

This two day refresher course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. This accredited qualification provides theoretical and practical training in first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged under 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction, has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or anaphylaxis.
Topics also include: fractures, dislocations, injuries to the head, neck, back, eyes, ears or nose, poisoning, bites or stings, burns or scalds, electric shock, minor injuries and chronic medical conditions. This qualification consists of two mandatory units and is typically delivered over a period of 2 days with a minimum contact time of 12 hours.

This accredited qualification provides learners with skills to further their first aid training. It is recommended for first aiders in the workplace environment who have access to a defibrillator. Those gaining this qualification will know that cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation form an essential part of the chain of survival. The recommended course duration is 5 hours with a minimum of 4 contact hours. The topics covered by this qualification are regarded by Skills for Health as being important in maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation. All successful students will be issued with a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation certificate. This qualification is currently assessed by practical demonstration of competence in addition to a multiple-choice theory assessment.
