Level 3 Award in First Person on Scene Intermediate (RQF) – 3 days

The Level 3 Award in The First Person on Scene Intermediate (RQF) qualification has been designed to provide the knowledge and skills to stabilise a patient for up to forty minutes until an ambulance or other pre-hospital care provider arrives. The knowledge and skills taught as part of the course are designed for the first person at the scene to intervene within a scope of practice to utilise life saving interventions to preserve life and prevent deterioration of the patient.

This qualification enables progression up to a Level 4 Diploma, and is suitable for:

Entry Requirements:

There are no specific requirements to undertake the qualification however, it is strongly recommended that learners hold an emergency first aid at work qualification or equivalent and hold a level 1 or above in literacy and numeracy. Learners must be 18 years of age or older to commence the training.

All successful candidates will be issued with a First Person on Scene Intermediate Certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Level 3 Award in First Person on Scene Support (RQF) – 4 days

The Level 3 Award in First Person on Scene Support (RQF) is designed to develop learners’ knowledge and skills required to effectively deal with a range of emergencies requiring medical assistance. These include general skills (roles and responsibilities, consent, pre-hospital treatment, patient assessment, adult/ paediatric basic life support), management of traumatic and thermal injuries (external bleeding, catastrophic haemorrhage, musculoskeletal injuries, head injuries, traumatic eye injuries, spinal injuries, burns and frostbite) and the management of a number of other medical emergencies (heart attack, angina, stroke, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, poisoning and sepsis).

This qualification is aimed at for those working in frontline services (e.g. close protection, security, event and private medical services and private security details operating in remote areas) in addition to those looking to further enhance their knowledge and skills within first aid. Through taking this qualification, learners will develop the subject matter competence to assess, stabilise and care for a patient for up to 30 minutes, and/ or until a time at which the patient can be treated by a pre-hospital care provider, so as to prevent deterioration and preserve life.

All successful candidates will be issued with a First Person on Scene Support Certificate, which is valid for 3 years.

First Aid:

Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) – 3 days

This accredited qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (NI) 1982.

Course duration is 3 days and topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider; assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, chest injuries, spinal injuries, anaphylaxis and use of a defibrilator. The qualification is assessed via on-going oral/written questioning and practical demonstration.

All successful candidates will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate, which is valid for 3 years.

Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Refresher (RQF) – 2 days

Health & Safety law states that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees. This two day refresher course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition to this, if there have been any changes to protocols since their initial qualification, this will be updated.

This course will provide participants with a qualification that meets the statutory requirements of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. All successful students will be issued with a new First Aid at Work Certificate, which will be valid for a period of three years.

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) – 1 day

Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) – 2 days

This accredited qualification provides theoretical and practical training in first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged under 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction, has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or anaphylaxis.

Topics also include: fractures, dislocations, injuries to the head, neck, back, eyes, ears or nose, poisoning, bites or stings, burns or scalds, electric shock, minor injuries and chronic medical conditions. This qualification consists of two mandatory units and is typically delivered over a period of 2 days with a minimum contact time of 12 hours.

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage is a document published by The Department for Education and applies to Early Years childcare. The Statutory Framework states that ‘at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present.

There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate.’ The HABC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is recognised as a qualification that fulfils this need. All successful students will be issued with a Paediatric First Aid certificate.

Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) – 1 day
